A heart breaks

Barnard in Woods 2The priest stepped outside the church and walked slowly down the hill to the river. He walked in a daze, like a man only half sure of his surroundings.

She had left him. It was that simple. Whether it was to protect his soul from the demon that tried to possess it, or because he had frightened her off with his deep need for her.

He sat on the shore and tried desperately to piece it all together. The church with its cold stone walls towered behind him. The meadow with it’s peaceful sheep lay before him. And she, the beautiful Karissa, the one he pined for, was now out of reach and out of his life. He bowed his head down low and tried to drown his sorrow in prayers.
