“Place apple pieces and cream in a pot on the stove and simmer until apples break down, about 20 to 30 minutes. Mash cooked apples and mix with spices and sugar. Pour into pie shell, bake in 400°F oven for 60 minutes, or until dry and set.”
Kitty took a stroll down the stone path. Hearing voices she peered in the window of the tavern. To her delight she sees the countess and who she believes is the man who came to her aid during the fire. “Hmmm, I wonder if he is the warden” she whispered to herself. Her eyes widened as she noticed that she has been spotted spying. Afraid that she will be yelled at she started to back away, but then saw the countess gesture for her to enter.
After meeting and greeting with the countess, warden, and the girl whom she met the night of the fire, she said her goodnights and headed back to the bakery. As she walked she noticed the forest edge and decided to venture off the path. After walking for what seems a short while she came across a small apple tree. A smile grew on Kitty’s face. Without thinking she stood on her toes to pick some apples. Holding them in her dress, she hurried back to the bakery
Once in the bakery she washed the apples and searched to find the ingredients for her apple tarts. Humming to herself, Kitty prayed to God the countess, warden, and the few town people she has met would enjoy her tarts. The thought of more business put a small smile of her face.
She tied her hair back and washed her hands. She fetched the apples from the water filled bucket and placed them on the table. She peeled and chopped them and mixed everything according to her recipe. Seh rolled out the dough she had made earlier and put the pies together. She put them in the oven and the heavenly smell of apple pie filled the bakery.
She went upstairs and cleaned herself up, changing her flour dusted dress. She removed the pies and placed them on the table to cool. She smiled, happy with how they came out.
“Tomorrow I will deliver these for breakfast time,” she said. She doused the fire in the oven, locked the door, and headed up to her apartment above for the night.
